Maurice Watson hails from Long Beach, CA where he started dancing at Jordan Performing Arts High School. He later went on to receive scholarships to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and the EDGE Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. Here is where he gained clarity, reliability and the responsibility towards the promotion of dance as an art form. His amazing technical abilities and strong sense of artistry has allowed him to dance and perform with world-class companies such as Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, Lula Washington Dance Theatre, Disney, and Holland America Cruise Line.
As we entered the millennium Mr. Watson graced not only the stage but could be seen on television, industrial shows, commercials and feature films. Some of his TV credits include: “The Parkers”, “Friends”, the “LA Emmy Awards”, the “NAACP Image Awards,” and a national Ford Fiesta Commercial. Mr. Watson has danced in Industrials shows for: Dr. Pepper, Toyota, and Budweiser, along with performing with singing artist Cece Peniston, Toni Braxton, Robyn and Faith Evans.
He choreography has been seen on Dayton Contemporary Dance 1st and 2nd company, 7Dancers Dance Company, Jazz Antiqua Dance and Music Ensemble, universities and dance studios throughout Los Angeles. Maurice is an engaging teacher, and has taught at numerous universities, summer programs, and dance seminars throughout the United States, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, where many students and teachers have experienced his creative prowess as a dancer and choreographer. Mr. Watson is currently seeking a Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) in dance at the University of Iowa.
