What IS The Dance Expo?

This is the only convention in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Corridor providing you the freedom and opportunity to choose what you learn! We are allowing participants to attend 1 day only on both Saturday and Sunday.

  • Dancers are not required to perform in the Home Routine Show in order to register for the workshop.

  • No refunds on workshop fees — NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • Dancers are not required to register for the workshop with a studio. Independent entries are welcome!

  • PLEASE NOTE: At the door, registration must be paid by cash, credit card, cashier's check or money order. The Dance Expo does not accept personal OR studio checks onsite, at anytime.

  • Once registration for The Dance Expo is submitted, it is agreed that all dancers, teachers, parents and other attendees will not hold The Dance Expo responsible for any injury or loss of property during the event.

  • All registrations INCLUDE a $10 meal voucher

Teacher Discounts:

  • When calculating the total number of students, do not include Observers.

  • If you qualify for the complimentary hotel room, The Dance Expo will make the reservation at the hotel and pay for the room & tax. Please provide the name for the reservation on the workshop registration form. The room reserved will have two double beds. 

 

College Discounts:

  • Discounts are offered to current college students with valid college IDs and can be applied to groups of 5 or more dancers. Dancers must be registered as ONE group with at least one organizer to handle the registration. 

 

One Day Workshop:

  • The Dance Expo does offer a one day workshop option. One day participants are NOT eligible for any scholarships that may be awarded. One day workshop is available for Saturday or Sunday. However, Sunday classes are often continuations of what is started in class on Saturday. It is recommended that dancers attend both days in order to get the best possible experience.

 

Mini Convention (AGES 5 - 7):

  • The Dance Expo is an excellent intro for young dancers ages 5-7 into the convention world!  The Mini convention is designed for young dancers who want to experience The Dance Expo but might find the two day workshop too challenging or overwhelming. The Mini convention will include one jazz, ballet & hip-hop class on Saturday. The Mini's will be learning 2 short routines and will have the opportunity to perform the routine during the Home Routine Show on Saturday evening! The Mini Convention is all about FUN!
  • All Mini Convention participants will receive a certificate of participation!
  • Parents are allowed to observe the Mini Convention for FREE!! 

 

Observers:

  • Pre-registration is recommended but observer passes will also be available to purchase at the event. 
  • The observer pass fee is $40, whether purchased in advance or onsite.
  • All observers must be attending with paid students.
  • Observer passes are not needed for the Mini Convention room.
  • Observers will not have access to the breakout speakers.
  • Observer passes are not needed for the Home Routine Show or for the Closing Show. 

 

Observers must keep the following in mind:

  • Make sure passes are visible for the The Dance Expo staff at all times during the workshop classes.

  • Sit and keep all belongings as far back against the walls as possible to provide the maximum amount of room for the dancers.

  • No excessive noise or talking during the classes. It can be distracting to the dancers and teacher.

  • NO videotaping or photography allowed at any point during the workshop classes. Still photos can be taken in between classes, with the faculty, etc.
